The following entries are taken from my old blog where I kept a record of past events. there are literally thousands of these. Here I’ve just taken a few that are relevant to performing at a Bath Magician which will hopefully give an idea of some of the events I have performed at.

Christmas Party Magician Bath

On Saturday night I was hired by Snapdragons Nursery to perform at their Christmas party in Bath. The event was for all their staff throughout the UK, about 200 people, and was held at Bailbrook House in Bath. They required close up magic whilst the guests ate dinner with a 20 minute show at the end of the meal prior to an awards ceremony.

Throughout the meal I went around the tables performing a 10 minute routine for each group. I started with a warm up each time, predicting and influencing the behaviour of the people at the table, a typical example may be to write something down I would ask people to name a number, the numbers they name would be the same as what I had written down. This simple piece of influence allows me to move on to something a little more advanced knowing who would be the easiest people to work with (always useful at Christmas parties where there is always the chance a little too much may be drunk!!). For the main routine I would try some mind reading, telling people the names and describing old friends I asked them to think of or asking people to draw pictures and I would attempt to duplicate them. Performing close up prior to performing a show is always very useful as it tells me who would be the best people to work with during the show which makes my life a lot easier, particularly at drunken Christmas parties!

For the show I started with a routine that involved the whole audience and then called a number of guests up to assist me in the show. I ended the show with an empathy routine involving the owners of the company. This was filmed, link is HERE. In all honesty I have yet to watch this, I hate watching myself on film but I’m told the sound isn’t brilliant but hopefully it will give an idea of what to expect at a more rowdy Christmas party!

Corporate Magician Bath

On Friday evening I was hired to perform at a corporate event for Prezola at Bath Cricket club. This event was for their annual summer party which should take place outdoors but due to a day of torrential rain was moved indoors. Guests arrived at the event (about 70 people) at 7pm. I always like to give people 15 minutes to get in the door and get drinks in hand before I get started, this also gives me a chance to observe people for a while and decide who would be the best participants. The event was a cocktail party so throughout the evening I mixed and mingled with the guests performing for small groups at a time. Each group would take part in a ten minute routine in which I would open with a routine that involved everyone that involves influence and the ability to predict peoples behaviour. This routine would help me to decide who to use next for some mind reading. A favourite routine at this point is to ask someone to think of an old friend. I would then describe the person and tell them their name! I was hired to perform for a couple of hours but ended up staying for about 3, until enough had been had to drink and the music was turned up! Corporate events of this nature are one of my favourite places to perform, people are always relaxed and up for a good time. This was a particularly fun evening and I look forward to performing for them all again next year.
